Zoom w a View

Apricot Blossom

My wife and I count apricot blossoms as a sign spring is here.

I predict spring will be an unusual type. Dozens of blossoms appeared recently instead of thousands.

Did your fruit tree not get the 'spring is here' memo this year?

Zoom w a View: "spring-like soon"

The local weather will indeed be spring-like soon. No more wee blizzards or wet walkways during my 20-minute walk home from The Club.

I have my T-shirts and shorts ready!

Zoom w a View: "more signs spring has sprung"

Spring. Sprung.

There is more ice on London's sidewalks than on the mighty Thames.

Zoom w a View: "signs spring has sprung"

If you're counting the signs spring has sprung, here are two extra for your list:

More ice has disappeared from the Thames River

Remaining snow is now only up to the dog's belly

It's still a bit early for your best sneakers and t-shirts, but spring has definitely sprung.

My Morning Walk: "ice is disappearing"

Signs that spring has sprung:

["The sky seems bluer behind the clouds"]

["More people in the pool at The Centre"]

[Today: "Ice is disappearing on the mighty Thames"]

[Yesterday: "More ice and snow on the Thames"]

Another sign: I walked all the way home with my jacket open.

You heard it here first!

"spring has sprung"

For those familiar with Morse Code:

Spring has sprung, so hang in there

And in the fine print, bottom line:

Only 330 days 'til Stones in the Shed 2

My Morning Walk: "spring is coming"

Slushy sidewalks make for hard walking so I use the road when I can. But slushy sidewalks are becoming more frequent and I think they're a sign that spring is coming.

The sun's warmth was more noticeable on the way home. That's a sign.

March is closer than last week. That's a sign.

The ice on the Thames looks dicey. And that's a sign too.

Zoom w a View: The tree next door

Branches of a red maple, adorned with countless bursts of spring leaves, hang over our back fence.

Zoom w a View: Signs of sprrring PT 2

Steve Coad, Wortley Village resident and sports columnist for The London Free Press, is now running in shorts. No more long johns.

He got me thinking... I still have running shoes with some miles left in them.

Zoom w a View: Inside, daffodils blossom

Outside, the wind drives wet snow into every crevice, atop every branch, onto fences and rooftops, sidewalks and roadways.

Zoom w a View: Is the Ice Age really over?

Saturday, 4:40 p.m., between drops of rain, I photographed my messy backyard and sidewalk.

The ice and snow may be disappearing before my eyes but 6 inches of water keep me from prized lumber in The Annex. What shall I do with my spare time?

Photo 1: “Soggy Fire Pit”

Photo 2: “Too Deep for Duckies”

I notice the cement is becoming bare. Ice is receding southward. (Is that the usual direction? What will people on Commissioners Rd. do with my ice?)

Photo 3: “Thin Ice Heading South”

I may not be able to reach my lumber supply, but at least I’ll be able to take out the garbage without falling on my can.

Zoom w a View: Can a snow clunker be called art?

It’s a new rule. Photos must come with descriptive titles. Even during the sloppy time of transition between Winter Snow and Spring Flowers.

I’ll follow this rule all the time now - until I forget.

Transition 1: Gritty steps will soon be polished stone

Transition 2: Slushy walkways will soon be dry

Transition 3: Spruce trees in puddles wait for blue skies

Transition 4: Watery curbs wait for warm breezes

Transition 5: Frozen clunkers will soon litter the lane

Let me know if you’ve ever seen a prettier clunker.
