Do you own a camera and know an animal by name?

Carmi at Written Inc. has created a unique opportunity for folks with a camera and an interest in using it regularly.

Do you own one?

His theme this week at Thematic Photographic relates to - animals.

Do you know one?

I met a couple of birds and one snake recently at Cape Chin (Georgian Bay) and Port Bruce.

Click here if you can identify the second bird.

Remind you of anyone?

Great composition on that first shot! I love the background effect of freezing the surf (wow... I guess Georgian Bay really is cold!). The bird in the second shot I'd guess was maybe ... a double breasted cormorant? No, they don't have webbed feet... Maybe a loon of some kind? Is this a trick question?

And oh-by-the-way... is that Dick Cheney in the third shot?

not a trick question, mojo. my daughter-in-law may know. i'll see her tomorrow.

the snake - if not Cheney, a close friend of his.

cheers,

gah

i love the photos. as much as i hate snakes, i like how it looks like it's slithering out from the water. i agree w mojo on the freezing the surf. very cool. i'm up now, too. :)

Did the snake spook you when you saw it? It did me when I saw here on the blog! :-)

hi heidi,

though i'm not too nervous around snakes i'm aware there are water and rattle snakes in the area so one eye is always open.

based on my experience, they give me more room than i give them. they don't scare me much on this boulder beach because they hear me walking slowly on the the rocks and move along - most times.

when I see one, i'll follow it to make it travel a bit farther away. thus the photo(s).

cheers,

gord h.

I see you have that cute grandson up again. He is indeed a cutie. I'm on my way to Virginia in a couple of weeks for my granddaughter's second birthday.

I like your animals...not crazy about snakes though. I went to put out my garbage can the other night, and when I moved it, there was a little snake under it. I didn't bother with him until I saw his tail shaking and then he got into position to strike. He was all of nine inches long if that, a pygmy rattler, I guessed. I did get the shovel and kill him. As I did, I wondered where the mama might be.

I have a picture up also...not a snake though.

That first picture is amazing--awesome background! That's a cool snake, too--not that I really like snakes, but it looks cool. :)

I love a challenge (and, apparently, so does Mojo), so I went off looking... I commented on the other post with my guess about the mystery bird.

your photos are great but the third one is particularly thought provoking and horribly fascinating...
