The Workshop: "It won't be tidy for long"

By 4:45 p.m. on Thursday the shop literally glowed. It was swept, dusted, and tidied, all ready for my 5 p.m. appointment with a birdhouse buyer and 8 p.m. get-together with all and sundry neighbours. And by 5 p.m. Friday, though the space still shone, bits and pieces of lumber - some collected from here, some rescued from there - and two birdhouses needing an up-grade with paint were cluttering bench and floor surfaces.

This afternoon, after the paint jobs are finished, all and sundry neighbours will hear my table saw ripping logs and roof slats for my next batch of birdhouses: 'Log cabins - Phase Two, with a couple of classic modifications' will be underway. Wood chips will fly, sawdust will catch the breeze, much more than noise from the whirring saw blade will fill the air.

Busy, dusty days ahead.
