Birdhouse Hunting: PT 2 - Belmont is a friendly village for birds

As I drove through Belmont on Sunday, on my way to Aylmer to connect with a fellow motorcycle rider, I had to make an important - a very, very important - decision.

Which road should I take east to pick up highway 73 (Imperial Rd.) to Aylmer? I had so many great choices (I felt like a kid squeezing a new dime in a candy shop), but because I was birdhouse hunting I picked the first one I came to, the Avon Road, just past ‘the crick’, because it was familiar and I could ride slowly, unhindered by traffic.

Within minutes of turning I spotted a rustic house attached to a metal pole at the edge of a field of tall grass. And across the field I saw another.

After taking a couple of pictures I returned to my bike, and took one more with a larger camera, one with 30x optical zoom.

That’s when I realized the two houses were perched close together on the far side of the field. Worth a hike next time I’m in town.

Birdhouse hunting has its pleasures and while zipping up my camera bag a lone bird returned to the first house. She gave me one look and zipped away.

“I’ll be back,” I said, and rode off toward Aylmer.

Rustics are real charmers, in my opinion.
