The Workshop: 'tis the season for red

A few years ago, early in December, my wife told me to use more red paint on bird houses. Especially on the ones displayed in the front window of a store near our house. I'm no dummy. I caught her drift.

However, like a true Scot (I wasn't called Gordon after Flash), my first thought was, red paint costs money! Was my wife buying?
