Bird watching: "I've got my eye on you"

Birds appear to be learning to trust me. Why? I'm not sure.

When I started watching them on a back deck feeder several years ago it was through a window covered with cardboard that had one small hole in it. However, birds could still spot my twinkly eyeball and take off in seconds. Nowadays even the male cardinal, a jittery bird if I ever saw one, stops in and almost seems to relax ay the feeder while I'm looking through an unobstructed window.

["I've got my eye on you," says Mr. C.]

That being said, any sudden movements still send the birds scurrying into the nearby trees.
