Will a top-hat save the Gulf of Mexico?

BP Oil has a new plan. Place a top-hat containment dome over the massive leak (800,000 liters of crude oil per day since April 20) at the bottom of the Gulf.

Will it work?

["Is Mr. B. Peanut up to the job?"]

Well, they tried a larger dome earlier in the week and it didn’t work.

They tried to prepare an oil rig for drilling - in partnership with Transocean Ltd. and Halliburton Co. - but that didn’t work. An April 20 explosion killed 11 workers.

According to investigators, BP pinned the safety of its entire operation on the performance of a leaking and apparently defective blowout preventer, and that didn’t work.

Hopefully, BP’s new plan will work and they will prevent the current disaster from growing worse.

And after a few more weeks of this giant mess, perhaps our thirst for off-shore oil will decrease and we’ll put more effort into conservation of energy.
