trumpet vines toot toot

I didn't even know we had them until a couple of days ago. Trumpet vines. And they have been growing upon our side fence for several years.

Yesterday I balanced carefully upon a narrow bench and snapped a few photos that reveal the trumpet flowers at various stages of development.

Stage 1 - small buds

Stage 2 - about to open

Stage 3 - playing solo

Stage 4 - group ensemble, toot toot a root

Some plants blow me away. And how I missed it, I'll never know... unless you tell me.
