How to find hot coffee on a snowy day

After locking the front door I walk north half a block past St. Martin of Tours church.

At the next corner I walk one block east to the old normal school and turn left at Wortley Rd.

I head north, stopping only long enough to admire the row of walnuts at the next corner.

Almost there. Another 100 steps for a mug of dark roast.

Cheers,

GAH

Allegedly a Little Red Roaster will be opening up the road from me this autumn. I can't wait! It'll be quite a long walk (and I won't see beautiful old buildings like you do Mr H) but then I'll have earned a decent cup of coffee that isn't a Starbucks. Walking up to Chapters for a browse and then a coffee is a nice treat but everytime I go in there a clip from the Simpsons episode flashes before my eyes - you know, the one where a Mall gets taken over by Starbucks outlets. While I'm at that end of the road I can post some parcels at the Pharmaplus and pop into Laziz for some good quality meat and lovely bread from a family company. I believe a new florists has opened up too.

Somedays I wish I could go for a short walk for a coffee... then days like today I am quite happy to brew a cup in my own kitchen and just look at the 4 feet of snow that has piled up overnight.

I believe the closest coffee place is about a 2 hour walk (in St. Marys). Maybe I will hold off until the snow clears.

I used to work in a small office above that Little Red Roaster (before it was an LRR and before I drank coffee).

hi jesse,

the owners of The Roaster brand told me re their plans in White Oaks and i think the location is excellent. if there is ample room for seating then it would be a lovely spot to relax with java and a good book from the local library.

cheers,

Gord H.

ps

i was called Mr. H. for years in the school system and enjoy your use of it; i feel younger already.

son of a gunderson, clever monkey. small world - one of my last motorcycle rides of the season was to coffee culture in St. Marys, and perhaps we crossed paths in the past, i've been in the Village for 22 years.
