OTTAWA: Gord and Pat's Excellent Adventure

The Jail Hostel, the National Gallery, the War Museum,

Pat's Elementary School, an Expensive Supper and More

Pat enjoys a pit-stop in Perth on the way to Fenelon Falls

Introduction:

After I biked to Halifax for the first time in 2010, to bury Dad at sea, I returned home by a slightly different route. I included a short stay in Ottawa at the Jail Hostel and took time to visit the Canadian War Museum, among other spots. The War Museum was the highlight, as I recall, and when I finally returned to London, Pat and I soon made plans to visit our capitol city together.

Below are a few photographs from that journey.

Our room was top floor, left : )

The ornate window, above - on the top floor - framed our bathroom window.
Oh yeah, livin' at The Ritz.

The giant spider roams the plaza outside the National Art Gallery.

Tour of the gallery follows...

Pat and I lunched outside the gallery... with views across the river.

Skeleton of a whale, made from pieces of white plastic chairs!

Inside the Canadian War Museum...

In the library of the War Museum we looked at several books, one written by Pat's grandfather:

I looked at several books re the RCN and the Merchant Navy, believing my father was a Merchant mariner:

We left the War Museum and visited the National Library and Archives:

We toured Pat's first school and around her neighbourhood:

After visiting Pat's school, we walked about a familiar neighbourhood:

Supper and trivia at a Scottish restaurant and pub on Rideau:

After one last look at the rustic hostel, we drive toward Fenelon Falls on old Number 7, and make an unscheduled stop in the pleasant town of Perth.

Okay, we have our coffees. Let's hit the road

And after a short stop in Perth, Pat and I enjoyed a visit with our son and grand-daughters in Fenelon Falls.

A great way to end an adventure. Smile!
