The Simple Life: Bird houses and wall art for the next generation

Got lemons?

Make lemonade, save the seeds, plant one in a small pot. Encourage it to grow. Enjoy.

Got scrap lumber?

Make birdhouses with 1 - 1.5 inch holes and a clean-out door. Nail them to fence posts. Encourage the next generation of seed and insect eaters and songsmiths.

[21 birdhouses ready to deliver. Five were rubbed with linseed oil. Ever tried it?: GAH]

Or make LP album holders, hang your old albums in the hallway and remember the days when bell bottoms and polyester ties came in matching colours and paisley was a word on everyone’s tongue.

Ouch!

Got smaller scraps now?

Make CD holders and show people what music is ‘now playing’.

My old radio is now playing ‘Ruby Tuesday’ by the Rolling Stones and I’m still singing along.

Next up - Kodachrome (written by... anyone? Anyone?)

[See below for more monochrome pictures.]

Paul Simon wrote Kodachrome and it was one of my favorites.

Since you build bird houses do you have a yard full of them, too? We have six feeders of varying types of food and three hummingbird feeders. All need to be filled daily because of the dozens of "regulars" that come around: gold finches, cardinals, bluejays, house finches, etc. After 30 years in the big city we are now on an acre in the country next to a wooded ravine. LOVE IT!

well done, barb. Mr. Simon's CDs get a workout around here.

dozens of birdhouses leave the workshop each month but so far only one has stayed on the property. we have a thick, tall cedar hedge, a tall Colorado and even taller blue spruce in our back yard and the birds habitually nest in their many branches.

enjoy your visitors; we seldom see hummingbirds - I'm jealous.

cheers,

Gord H.

Paul Simon!

I use Kodachrome to help with housework (along Me & Julio Down By the Schoolyard)

Where do your birdhouses end up?

hi jesse,

two stores sell them for me; Curiousities in Wortley Village and Featherfields (2 stores in London).

the price, however, is 25 per cent cheaper if a person deals with me directly. i call it 'the shed price'. same with my LP album or CD display frames.

cheers,

gord h.

ps i can see Kodachrome and Me and Julio helping with housework! both good ones.
