Birdhouse Hunting: A complex piece of work

Beside the boat channel in Port Bruce, about 100 yards NE of the Corner View Cafe, stands a well-made Purple Martin house.

It’s located on private property, and as far as I can tell, Martins, English sparrows and starlings share the dwelling.

The roof is made from 16 slats of woods, each one set in its own carefully cut-out tier. I think the whole house will last for many years.

But, how does the builder clean it out in the spring? I may have to knock on a door - or trespass if nobody is home - in order to find out.
