This Old Economist: Go for a walk, then have tea

Did you hear that Canadian growth in the third quarter (i.e., July - Sept. for those not in the loop) “expanded at its slowest rate in a year?” (Dec. 1, London Free Press)

Good for you. There are millions of better things to do than listen to economic gabble.

Economists had been expecting GDP to rise by 1.4% in the quarter - where do they get this stuff? - but didn’t take into account Canada’s weak exports and a cool housing market. Poor dears.

Economists may also forgotten that many Canadians are now trying to be frugal, live under their means, reduce spending, pay down debt and save money for tough times ahead.

Many people also see benefits to a smaller economy still. Sustainability is such a good thing, isn’t it?

So, to everyone, including economists, I say go for a walk today, take a picture or two of any fresh snowfall, then enjoy a cup of tea when you get back home.

Economic gabble is almost like a religion to some folks, isn’t it?
